SUA offers a study abroad program at Universidad Aut贸noma de Yucat谩n in Merida through IFSA. This program is best suited for students with higher-level Spanish.

Location
Merida is located in very southern Mexico and is the largest city in the Yucatan Peninsula, with a population of around 770,000 residents.

History
Merida has a rich Mayan history and the highest indigenous population of any large Mexican city.

Food
The food in Merida is very different than other parts of Mexico, with Mayan, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern influences.
It was without doubt one of the best experiences in my life.
Program Characteristics
The fall semester takes place from mid-August to mid-December. The spring semester takes place from early January to mid-May.
- 2.5 GPA
- Four semesters of university-level Spanish
You will take a required advanced language course and may choose between two other required courses: History of Mayan Culture and Civilization or History of Mexico-United States Relations. Additionally, you can choose from a full range of courses in humanities, social sciences, education, and business.
You may take a four- to five-day archeological excursion, and day trips to places such as Uxmal, Chich茅n, Ek-Balam, and Hacienda Sotuta de Pe贸n.
You will live with a Mexican host family.
